By Chris Lash Publisher
Volunteers at the Union City Historical Museum took to social media, asking for a unique request. Askng for a team of horses to pull an historic hearse, that’s been stored inside the museum garage since 1967.
As part of Union City’s 150th celebration, the museum is planning to bring out a 150 year old funeral hearse. Recently, they had the wheels rebuilt and are finishing up with a few other minor mechanical details to make this possible.
The next (and biggest) hurdle is finding some horses to pull it. And it has to be the right set of horses.
“The hearse is one of the most impressive pieces that the museums owns, and it has just been hiding in the garage for over 50 years! We are very excited about this project to bring it out. There are a lot of pieces to the puzzle with this, and we have actually been working for the past 6 months. It’s proven to be a lot more complicated than we expected but we’ve had some really great people step up and help out. We are so grateful! Hopefully it will all be worth it on parade day.” Elizabeth Malec Moon told Union City Today.
