By Chris Lash Publisher

At last nights Union City Borough Council meeting, the group agreed to begin the process, of rezoning a parcel of property from industrial to commercial at 77 South Main Street. That is the front parcel of the vacant Ethan Allen Inc.’s Cherry Hill Division plant Cherry Hill property. Carl Boone, owner of the property made the request. A possible interested buyer might be buying the frontage.

Councilman Emmit McGuire asked if all the parcels at the address should be changed to commercial, to save time later. Borough Manager Cindy wells indicated that it could be difficult to return to industrial zoning in the future, so council voted on the front parcel only.

Council also will advertise an amendment to the ordinance that sets the penalty for real estate taxes to allow elimation of penaties on 2021 Borough real estate taxes, provided that taxes are paid in full by december 31st, 2021. Recently council voted to raise taxes 0.75 mills. With the small increase they could balance their 2021 budget, and show a small surplus.

The council meeting was held on Zoom due to the increasing numbers of Covid-19 in Erie County, and the state.
