By Chris Lash Publisher and Staff Reports

Union City Borough unveiled plans for the communities parks during an open house Friday. Proposed improvements that would make the parks more accessible and more popular with the public. Tracy Frampton, marketing representative and planner for The EADS Group; and Mark Lazzari, planning department manager for The EADS Group presented the plans.

Plans include:

French Creek – Creating a local use trail along French Creek with access points, boat launches and seating areas;

Connections – Develop walking/biking connections between neighborhoods and the parks and walking loops in each of the parks;

Improvements – Theme and design the parks for different age groups. For example, First Avenue Park (Tot Lot) would be for preschool to 10 years old;

Programming – Hire staff to run recreation programs, provide fitness classes, martial arts classes and teen programming;

Facilities – Add seating areas and picnic tables, as well as play equipment for children with physical limitations.

Maintenance – Improve maintenance at all parks, including cleaning, as well as fixing broken equipment.

Additional grants will be needed to fund the project, and all of the construction can be done in different phases
