October 12, 2020
Folks came in and were asked to record their presence and contact information.
Cindy Wells started the meeting at 7pm and welcomed everyone. Each person stated their name and their affiliation with a business, organization or church. For the purpose of the meeting, Cindy used the term “group” to identify one of those three categories.
Cindy stated that 2021 is the Borough’s 150 Birthday; first being named Union Mills and then Miles Mills. Maris Hanby, curator of the Union City Historical Museum stated that the town became Union City in 1871.
After the introductions, Cindy explained the purposed of the meeting. She stated that it would be nice to have at least two events per month; April – December. She asked folks to split up into “groups” for approximately 15 minutes. After about 20 minutes of group discussion, Cindy called everyone back to discuss ideas that had been tossed around.
The churches represented suggested an Ice Cream Social, Carriage Rides through the Historic District and a Community Church service.
The businesses represented suggested a Fishing event, a possible Little League event, a Carnival, Corn Maze, Chicken BBQ, a Hunter’s Safety Course, Boxcar Races, Christmas in July and a Scavenger Hunt. Also suggested was a Farmer’s Market, Plant Swap, Food Trucks, and a Car Cruise-In that could be held in the parking lot behind the Salvation Army.
Maris Hanby, curator of the Union City Historical Museum stated an open house would be also be possible. She stated that the museum is being gifted with a one-horse open sleigh. It was suggested by Parks and Rec that possible sleigh rides could be given in Nov. and Dec., pending snowfall. The sleigh could be on put on wheels for summer rides. Parks and Rec also suggested a Historic Home Tour.
UC Pride has the French Creek Festival in July.
There was also mention of a pumpkin walk.
The discussion and ideas were great. It was suggested that those present tonight pass along information discussed to other businesses in their vicinity.
Forms were passed out to be completed & returned to Cindy by November 13, 2020 providing event ideas that each group would like to do.
Cindy thanked those in attendance and the meeting was adjourned.
