David Roscinski ran for two touchdowns, including the go-ahead score, as Union City hung on for a 26-20 Region 5 win over Iroquois Friday night. The victory helped the Bears avenge a Sept. 25 loss to the Braves.

Union City took the initial lead on a 5-yard run by Roscinski and then a two-point run by Stull helped the Bears go up 8-0. The hosts led until Iroquois pulled even at 20-20 in the fourth quarter.

The Bears out gained Iroquois 266-224 on the ground. The Braves’ attack was fueled by Michael Hoopsick, who led all rushers with 19 carries for 153 yards and touchdown runs of 35, 4 and 1.

Trailing by 14 points, the Braves took advantage of a couple fourth-down defensive stops in the second half – both coming on Union City’s half of the field.

In the third quarter, Iroquois forced a turnover-on-downs and took possession on the Bears’ 36-yard line. Hoopsick finished off the ensuing drive with a 4-yard TD run as the Braves trimmed their deficit to 20-12 and then they tied the game, with Hoopsick’s third score – a 1-yard run – before tacking on the game-tying, two-point pass from Ethan Klinzing to Antonio Rodriguez.

After their lead had evaporated, the Bears responded with their go-ahead points on Roscinski’s run.
