By Chris Lash Publisher
Seventeen properties in the borough were approved for grants thru the Erie County Gaming Revenue Authority Renaissance Block Grant Program. The properties we’re chosen in the areas of South Street, West High, East High and the avenues. The owners of those properties will share and use a total ofo $50,820.
According to their website: The mission of ECGRA’s program is to reinvigorate neighborhoods and main corridors, combat blight and boost buy-local efforts, according to its website, www.ecgra.org.
When projects are completed we’re going to see improvements to the properties that include: windows and doors visible from the street. Also new roofs, soffits, gutters, porches, stairs, new paint and siding, chimney, masonry and driveways.
Union City Borough Council Secretary Cindy Wells told Union City Today “These projects total $106,000. It not only improves the appearance of the homes and neighborhoods, it provides work for many local contractors and is an investment in the local economy.”
There is a one-to-one match required, and the maximum grant amount awarded to a single applicant is $5,000.
Applications will be taken for the remainder of Union City’s renaissance funds in 2021.
