From Press Release

Erie County Land Bank will demolish its first structure Friday, June 5, in Union City. The demolition will take place at 64 Market Street in Union City Borough in the morning. A tree fell on the property, which was totaled by insurance. It was then donated to the Erie County Land Bank for blight removal.

“We have worked really hard to get to this point,” said Christie Mahany, coordinator at the Erie County Land Bank, a division of the Erie County Department of Planning and Community Development. “We continually work to develop new programs to help acquire and rehabilitate new properties within Erie County and are excited to officially launch our efforts with this property in Union City.”

Erie County Land Bank is a governmental entity that acquires blighted properties (vacant, abandoned, deteriorated, and/or tax delinquent) in the 37 municipalities outside of the city of Erie with the goal of returning them to productive use. It is governed by a board of nine appointed members from the seven different districts in Erie County. The Erie County Land Bank receives Erie County Gaming Revenue funds, profits from any properties that are sold, funds from a 5/50 tax recapture, grants, interest and donations.
