The Union City Area School District officiall hired the school’s new police officer to a two year contract. Edward N. Schick is a retired Pennsylvania State Police trooper. His contract will run from now until December of 2021.

The district also hired Brian Patten as head baseball coach, Michael Wydro and Andrew Dylon as assistant wrestling coaches (with a split stipend) and Timothy Ward as a volunteer wrestling coach, effective immediately, and Amy Thompson as assistant volleyball coach, effective pending receipt of remaining employment documents.

The district’s Board of Directors also informed the public, that they won’t raise taxes for the 2020-21 school year at a rate that exceeds the index as calculated by the state Department of Education. An amount less than or equal to the adjusted Act I Index of 4 percent would be sufficient to balance the district’s 2020-21 budget. If a school district wants to raise real estate taxes above the index, which is determined by a formula, it would be required to go to referendum.
