Congratulations to the Union City Lady Bears Volleyball team, as they won Union City’s first ever volleyball region title. The Lady Bears finished a perfect 8-0 in Region 3 play this season Union City pulled off a ridiculous comeback in the opening set and then rallied back to win the fourth and fifth sets against Cambridge Springs on Tuesday night to capture sole possession of the Region 3 championship — the program’s first in school history.

Natalie Franke led the Bears, ranked No. 9 in Class A by the Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association, with 15 kills. Eliza Reynolds added seven kills followed by Tara Jackson with six. Cyaira Zielinski had 28 assists. On defense, Reynolds led the way with 14 digs. Abby Tingle had 10 digs.

The Bears beat the Blue Devils 26-24, 19-25, 18-25, 25-14, 15-10 at the Devils’ Den. It was that opening set that showed just how Union City climbed to the top of the standings.
