From Staff Reports
On Tuesday night at Meadville High School, Saegertown beat Union City in four sets 20-25, 25-15, 25-20, 25-16 in the District 10 Class 1A semifinals. The Panthers advance to the District 10 championship game on Saturday where they’ll face Cochranton at a site and time to be announced. The Panthers also clinched a spot in the state tournament.
The Bears we’re missing middle hitter Tara Jackson, who arrived to the match on crutches. For Union City, Natalie Franke tallied 11 kills, six digs and four blocks. Cyaira Zielinski dished out 18 assists, added 10 digs and recorded seven blocks. Abby Tingley posted 13 digs while Eliza Reynolds saved nine digs.
“We fought really hard the first game, (my players) truly went after everything that they could,” said Union City head coach Rachel Moore. “That’s the team that we know. “We’ve never made it this far in the playoffs,” said Moore. “We’re new to these higher pressure situations where there’s a lot of people here to watch us, so I think even that affected us a little bit. “Hopefully we keep getting in these higher pressure games and get into these situations more so we can get more comfortable with that.”
