Project to Rehabilitate the Wattsburg Road Bridge in Waterford Township, Erie County to Start Soon
From PennDot Press Release
Work will begin soon to rehabilitate the bridge that carries Wattsburg Road (Route 2006) over French Creek in Waterford Township, Erie County.
The bridge is located approximately one-quarter mile east of the intersection with Juva Valley Road.
The project will include the replacement of the superstructure, as well as new roadway approaches, painting the beam ends, and upgraded guiderails.
The work is expected to start August 1, 2019, weather permitting, and should be completed by November 11, 2019.
Work will require a detour, which will be posted using Kimball Hill Road (Route 2009), Route 97, and Depot Road (Route 3014).
Built in 1967, the existing bridge is classified as poor condition. It was closed in April 2018 after a routine inspection uncovered damage to the structure. On average, it is used by approximately 500 vehicles per day.
The contractor is Swank Construction Company, LLC. of New Kensington, PA. The contract cost is $1,968,832.55, which is to be paid entirely with state funds.
This project was made possible by Act 89, Pennsylvania’s transportation funding plan.
