Union City Police Department Offers Unseat and Greet Initiative
By Chris Lash Publisher
The Union City Police Department announced on their Facebook page, and other media sources a new summer project.
In continuing our ongoing mission of Community Oriented Policing, we are rolling out a new initiative this summer called “UNSEAT AND GREET”. Officers will be more proactive in “unseating” from their patrol vehicles and “greeting” people at random in different neighborhoods as we patrol your area. We want to continue to build relationships with our community members and meet new people. Officers will have business cards to hand out as well. As always, never hesitate to call us if you need assistance!
Mayor Natalie Malec Wilmoth told Union City Today “I think this is a great program to increase the visibility and perception of the department. This will allow for the citizens to have positive interactions with the department in a relaxed and controlled atmosphere. Chief Pernice created this initiative and I commend his efforts in collaborating with the members of the community.”
The program hopes to create and encourage more personal encounters with local residents and businesses. Areas including parking lots, and stores will have increased police presence. Currently the department has a full time group of four officers and one part time.
Union City Today will have more on this story with Chief Pernice.
