Auditor General Expunges Charges against Corry, Union City Residents
From Press Release
According to a news release, Auditor General Eugene DePasquale today called for records to be expunged in nearly 1,000 cases where people were wrongly charged with a crime in Erie County. Former Corry District Judge Brenda Nichols improperly charged nearly 900 people with crimes for debts to local businesses, the Pennsylvania Auditor General announced Thursday.
DePasquale’s audit of the Corry district court found 880 cases between 2014 and 2017 in which Nichols, who was then the district judge, improperly filed criminal charges for theft of services that should have been filed as civil complaints, according to the release. Brenda Nichols served as the District Magistrate in this District that covers Corry, Elgin and Union City boroughs and Amity, Concord, Union and Wayne townships.
There was no total of Union City arrests that were improperly filed as of yet.
