Families Enjoy Winter Family Fun Day
By Chris Lash
Groups of families attended Union City’s annual Winter Family Fun Day this past Saturday. Willow Street Hill has always been the perfect hill for sled riding, and according to Elizabeth Malec Moon, Saturdays conditions were perfect and the hill was running very fast. But the words of one little girl said it all, “I was able to get some serious air time.”
Following sled riding, and other outdoor activities, on a day where temperatures finally warmed up from the deep freeze in town for a week, everyone made their way to McLane Church to warm up, play games, make valentines, and listen to a church band. After enjoying pizza and popcorn, everyone watched the movie Smallfoot, on a big screen.
“There are lots of moving parts for these events & we are grateful for every single one. McClane church provides the perfect facility with their beautiful dining area & big screen room. Film Fest provides the movie & the Union City Pizzeria gives us a great deal on the pizzas. The kids that come from Abbe Biebel’s Positive Youth Development group are always a huge help. The children enjoy playing games with them.” added organizer Moon.
Saturday was the exact half way point between the first day of winter and first day of spring. While families enjoyed another Union City event, Punxsutawney Phil didn’t see his shadow, meaning an early spring.
