Union City Bears Playoff Picture

This Friday night the Union City Bears wrap up their regular season against rival Cambridge Springs. They are certain for the region championship, if they lose and Maplewood wins,, because the Bears defeated the Tigers several weeks ago. Then the playoffs begin, and the Bears right now are a top seed.
Classes 4A, 5A and 6A will have just D-10 championship games this year. Cathedral Prep will take on Fort LeBoeuf in 4A the first weekend of November, while McDowell hosts Erie High for the 6A title on Oct. 26.
General McLane and Oil City will meet for a second time this season to determine the 5A title after Franklin (3-5), Meadville (0-8) and Warren (4-4) opted out of the playoffs. General McLane beat Oil City 17-12 on Sept. 14 at Linden Field.
There will be three Class 1A quarterfinal games on Oct. 27, but the matchups are still to be determined. Cambridge Springs (2-6), Eisenhower (1-7) and Saegertown (0-8) opted out of the playoffs, but the Blue Devils could play a key role in which team gets a bye.
Farrell, West Middlesex and Reynolds are in from Region 1, while Union City, Maplewood, Eisenhower and Cochranton are in from Region 2. Cambridge Springs could end up as the third, fourth or fifth seed from Region 2. Whatever spot the Blue Devils land in would give their opponent a bye, which would be either Union City, Farrell or West Middlesex.
Numerous high school football teams opted out of the playoffs They include Corry, and Titusville.
