With the pick up game Friday night, the Union City Bears picked up their seventh win of the season, and ended the regular season on a three game winning streak, heading into the playoffs. On what could have been a week off, after earning a playoff bye, the Bears decided to play the Girard Yellowjackets in a non-region game. They were up to the task, bringing local fans another easy win 44 to 21.

The Bears offense had 447 total yards, with 375 of it led by their offensive line, and thunder and lightening rushing attack. Gavin Henry added to his record setting high school career with 199 yards, and a touchdown. Brayden Kinney ran for another 154 yards and scored five touchdowns.

Tyler Hawkins led Girard with 91 rushing yards and a touchdown on 15 carries, while Corey Russell ran for 89 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries.

Girard is headed to the District 10 Class 3A playoffs. And the Bears, the Region 2 champion, are on its way to Class 1A, to battle West Middlesex. The possible neutral playoff game sites include Edinboro University, or General McClane High School.

The Bears are currently ranked third in Class 1A, behind Farrell and West Middlesex.
