Mr. Daniel Keefer is serving as the Middle School/High School Dean of Students for the 2018-2019 school year. The Dean of Students assists the principal with a variety of activities
including helping with the safety and security of students. Mr. Keefer is a Union City graduate, has taught Science at Union City for the past 19 years and has served as the District’s Athletic Director since 2011. He is married to his wife, Amy, and has three daughters – Lexi, Ali and Kenlee. Mr. Keefer is serving in this position due to Mr. David Swanson’s acceptance of a position at the Girard School District.

Mrs. Norma Bleasby is serving as a Kindergarten teacher for the 2018-2019 school year. She was hired at Union City in 2001 and has served the District as a K4 paraprofessional, Title I interventionist and K4 teacher. Mrs. Bleasby has been happily married to her husband, Tom, for twenty years. She is the mother of two children, Danielle and Scott, who are Union City graduates. Danielle now lives in Texas and Scott recently returned to Union City when he was discharged from the Navy. Mrs. Bleasby also has two step sons who
live in Michigan and two grandchildren who live here in Union City. Her family is completed by three dogs and five cats. Mrs. Bleasby says she “is now lucky enough to be the fourth teacher for Kindergarten. I love working in my school and this community and feel blessed to be a part of so many
children’s lives.” Mrs. Bleasby is the teacher in the new Kindergarten class that was created due to increased student enrollment.

Ms. Carling Burke is the District’s new Speech and Language Pathologist. She is a Clarion University graduate and, prior to coming to Union City, worked as a Speech-Language Pathologist in Early Intervention at the Achievement Center. Ms. Burke replaces Mrs. Dorothy Brandt, who retired
earlier this year.

Ms. Janel Zahner is teaching 6th grade English Language Arts
this year. She earned her Master’s degree in Reading and her
Bachelor’s in Elementary Education from Edinboro
University, and she also attended the University of North
Carolina in Charlotte. Previously, Ms. Zahner was employed
as a Reading Specialist in the Act 89 and Title I programs at
the Intermediate Unit in Edinboro, PA. She is the parent of
two children – Joey is nine years old and Connor is four. Ms.
Zahner is filling the position left open with the retirement of
Mr. William Burdick.

Ms. Katie Thomas is the newest addition to the District’s science teaching staff. Ms. Thomas earned her Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and her Master’s degree in Education from Edinboro University. She is certified to teach General Science, Chemistry and Physics. Prior to coming to Union City, Ms. Thomas taught Applied Chemistry and Environmental Issues at Millcreek School District. Prior to earning her education degree, she worked as the Head Laboratory Technician at a compounding pharmacy
making custom pharmaceuticals in Erie, PA. Ms. Thomas says she is very excited to be a member of the Union City faculty. She is teaching the courses that were previously taught by Mr. Daniel Keefer.

Mrs. Pauline Pituch is teaching Agriculture Education classes
this year. Prior to accepting this position, Mrs. Pituch worked
at Union City for several years as a paraprofessional and
Technology Integration Support Specialist. She also worked
at St. Thomas School in Corry. Mrs. Pituch is the mother of
two sons, Raymond and Steven, and one daughter, Janet.
